Why Astrology?

Astrology was never at the top of my to-do list. It wasn’t even on the list. Following my peers, I graduated with a degree from a top-10 university that led to a corporate ladder climb in Manhattan. I grudgingly molded to the designs of our structured world, with music as my nightly rebellion.

But I yearned for something more human. The musician in me saw the world—even the gnarly sound of subway cars screeching on the Shuttle between Times Square and Grand Central—as a system of fascinating, synchronized vibrations. A subtle but present energy always seemed to be ushering us in certain directions, but I couldn’t articulate it.

I decided to give astrology a look, expecting to find something akin to the tacky, generalized horoscopes you’d see in a tabloid. What I discovered stopped me in my tracks. 15-ish books later I realized I had only scratched the surface of a field with a wealth of insights. Unwilling to accept that it might be true, I applied the scientific method, testing hypotheses as I went along. I wanted to break the algorithm, so to speak. But again and again the methods held steady.

For the uninitiated—to my surprise, there aren’t just 12 signs. There’s also 12 houses. And every planetary body in our solar system passes through the signs. And then you have degrees, decans, modes, progressions, rulerships, angular aspects, nodal positions, and….I’ll stop there, but that’s all to say the birth chart is more like a fingerprint than a crude measure of 12 personalities. There are seemingly infinite permutations of birth charts and everyone’s is unique (yes, even twins).

Of course uniqueness doesn’t always translate to usefulness. But here’s the kicker—these astrological factors create multi-layered archetypes that reliably match what’s going on down here on planet Earth. Ancient cultures had brains and the ability to track events against planetary positions. Over time, the contours of meaning formed, and eventually the Leo constellation of stars symbolized pride and a need for approval, full moons were culminations, and so on.

Look, I didn’t write the rules (in fact no single person did, which is another bonus for astrology. It’s an open-source body of knowledge like any other field of study. There’s no “founder” that we owe a debt of gratitude to), but the rules have become extremely useful tools for mapping out the self, the soul and its vibrations. If “souls” and “vibrations” aren’t your thing, I get it, they weren’t mine either. But take a dive into the deep end of the pool and you’ll be glad you tried it. Astrology is by miles the best self-realization tool out there.

At its core, astrology is a measure of the quality of the time you were born in, and how that shapes the energy you have to develop in this lifetime. My #1 job is to help people take responsibility over their energies, become more aware of the tension points they’ve suppressed, and unlock the positive energy flows they’ve taken for granted.

I’m fueled by this new astrological journey, and I hope you’ll join me as we chart a course to a more holistic era of mindfulness and fulfillment.
